Preacherbill’s Origins

Interest in Coins

Bill Welsh, also known as Preacher Bill, has always had an interest in numismatics, or coin collecting, and ministry. Bill’s fascination with gold & silver bullion and coins led him to open his first coin shop called The Coin Den in Pueblo, CO in 1979. Since opening that first shop, he has opened four other shops including Preacherbill’s Coins in Midland, TX.

Dedication to God & Education

While running his coin store, Bill also received his doctorate degree in Bible history at Bethany Theological Seminary and became a preacher in 1985. He served 13 years at Tarzan Church of Christ and 18 years at Belvue Church of Christ before retiring in 2018. During his years as a preacher, he would teach Bible history, government, geography, and economics at Midland Christian School and Big Spring High School.

Preacherbill’s Coins Today

Preacherbill’s Coins has been around without a physical storefront since 2000, primarily appearing at shows and expos and building a lot of loyal customers. They finally opened the doors to a permanent store in 2018. Bill became a lifetime member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA – Member Number 3266) and a lifetime member of the Texas Numismatic Association (TNA – Member Number 222). Bill was a governor of the TNA from 2000-2023.
